Protecting the flight paths of wading birds

The East Asia-Australia flight path is one of the most dangerous in the world for migratory birds. Gathering points in Asia are increasingly falling victim to urban development. The number of most migratory bird species is in decline and many are now under threat.

Wading birds are also being affected. This category includes well-known species, such as curlews, plovers and Arctic terns. Icarus will help to shed light upon the migratory routes of wading birds and to identify the main gathering points in order to protect them.
